The success of Australia's tourism sector is intrinsically linked to the sustainability of Australia's accommodation owners and operators. Last year, Australia's accommodation sector employed 143,300 people and made a significant contribution to the Australian economy; especially in regional and rural Australia. Hence, I believe this year's conference theme, 'A More Sustainable You', to be entirely appropriate. I strongly encourage you to participate in the Annual AGV Accommodation Conference, as it will help us build a stronger and more sustainable tourism industry. It is also a great opportunity for operators to get together, learn from each other, share successes, and network for the future. Martin Ferguson, Ministor for Tourism
This is the 8th Annual Conference organised by AGV for the small to medium accommodation industry in Victoria.
Building on the highly successful conference in 2007, quality speakers will cover a wide range of topics such as sustainable gardening (with Jane Edmanson of the ABC's program, Gardening Australia); assistance for small business owners to develop their environmental programs, an impartial view of online booking programs; IT solutions for small business and the results of a survey into the size and scope of this industry across Australia.
Chris Buckingham, CEO of Destination Melbourne will speak at the Conference Dinner about the opportunities for tourism with the opening of the new Melbourne Convention Centre in 2009.
Over 20 exhibitors will provide conference specials, advice and information, and the atmosphere will be warm and friendly with the emphasis on networking and gathering new ideas.
The conference is for everyone interested in our sector of the tourism industry. We hope to see you there.
