A Cane Field with Mount Warning in the background in Northern Rivers region of Tropical New South Wales Australia.
Up near the Queensland border of NSW is the towering peak of Mount Warning which visitors can scale with a day of bushwalking at their disposal. The walk up the Mt Warning through various types of forest is fascinating and koala bears can be seen high in the gum trees.
Set in sugar cane country up on the northern rivers region of far North NSW, the sugar cane fields stretch as far as the eye can see on both sides of the main highway north. During early spring the farmers set the sugar cane on fire to burn the undergrowth before the harvest. The sight is spectacular as the fire spirals into the night skies.
Northern Rivers tropical NSW coastal towns such as Ballina and Byron Bay offer sailing, fishing and surfing and inland Lismore has a thriving university culture and is home to painters, wood carvers, film makers, musicians and designers.
