Winding its way through the heart of Melbourne the Yarra River is flanked by wonderful gardens (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kings Domain, Alexandra Gardens,) National Tennis Centre, Federation Square, Flinders Street Station, Melbourne Concert Hall, Southbank with its exciting restaurant complex, Crown Casino, Melbourne Exhibition Centre, Polly Woodside and high rise residential apartments.

The Yarra River can easily be explored by foot or on bicycle and there are many picnic and barbeque spots on the banks. The river is home to water sports and during the famed Moomba Festival in March comes alive with a water festival, including waterskiing and pyrotechnic displays.
